How Search Works

Google's Explanation of How Search Works

You read these website tips because you want to get more visitors to your website. However, sometimes it is good to go back to basics. That is why Google has recently released a simple, interactive website that illustrates the process. Spend 1 minute going through it. Go to Google's explanation of how search works and scroll down.

It highlights the three key parts:

  1. How it finds pages (and what you can do to help);
  2. How it decides which pages should appear at the top of a search, and;
  3. What it does to those who get it wrong.

So what does this tell you?

First, there is a lot of competition out there. However, lots of things can be done to make your web pages rise to the top.

Second, doing "bad" things, looking for a quick fix, is not the way to do it.

Third, if there are over 200 factors involved, simply tweaking some keywords or paying someone £200 isn't going to work either.

However, all is not lost. If you follow the various sub-menu links on the site, you will find lots and lots of valuable information. However, rather than just one minute, you could spend hours, days, weeks or even months reading, understanding and assessing their relevance to you.

That is why you need specialist web marketing help. Website design and website marketing are two different skill sets. That is why web designers pass clients to us. Initiative2 has been successfully helping clients for 11 years. Get in touch and I can tell you how we could help you.
