comparethemeerkat.com is arguably one of the most successful advertising campaigns in a generation.
As well as TV and radio adverts, they also have a very strong online presence. After all, they are promoting their online business, an insurance comparison website. That is what is of interest to us.
Spend one minute discovering what you can learn from it, and how it relates to the marketing of your business.
Research by the University of Sydney Business School (17th March 2014) has revealed some interesting statistics:
- The website is now ranked the 4th most visited insurance website in the UK, up from 16th in January 2008;
- Aleksandr has 80,753 fans on Facebook; 62,971 followers on Twitter; and even has a LinkedIn profile.
Just out of interest, compare their social media reach against yours. Then consider their resources compared to yours.
Of greater importance is the first statistic; they are the fourth most visited insurance website in the UK. This means that there are three other insurance websites that receive more visitors. Three of their competitors receive more online traffic.
Why is this? What seems to be more effective than traditional advertising and social media in attracting visitors. Is it good search engine optimisation (SEO)? Go to Google and try searching using various combinations of the words insurance and comparison, etc, and see what happens.
This demonstrates the real and ongoing value of effective SEO. You may have been disappointed in the past. You may have been persuaded to do something else instead. But given the above evidence, why wouldn't you just want to do it, and do it properly?
