Is Your Mobile-friendly Website, Mobile Friendly?

If you haven't already got a "mobile-friendly" website, then people will be trying to persuade you. Surely once you do so, things will be much better? Spend one minute reading the following to realise that this is seldom the case. That you have been sold a pup, and what to do about it.

The argument for "mobile-friendly" websites is based on the fact that mobile screens are smaller than those on laptops and computers. The solution is to make websites change their layout, depending upon the screen size. This is known as "responsive web design". This is a far as most website designers take it. Even then, they don't always get it right. In other words, you have paid for something, but haven't actually got it.

There is a simple test. Go to, and enter your website URL.

Even if your website passes this test, it doesn't mean that it has been optimised for mobile. There are a series of techniques to maximise the effectiveness of your website. Many are simply good practice.

If you have concerns about your website, then you probably want to speak to your web designer. However, if they knew about this stuff, they would have done it properly in the first place. Do you know enough to tell them what to do?

Clients come to us for a brutal yet impartial analysis of what they have. In addition to highlighting all the problems, we explain what your options are. Some are quick and inexpensive. Others are more far-reaching. We can even liaise between you and your supplier, to ensure that you aren't fobbed off.
